Convenor: Christine Mercer
The Australian Music Study Group last met at the MSA-NZMS National Conference in Brisbane on Tuesday 19 November 2013, with two thirds of the members present. For the time being the group will run primarily as an online e-mail discussion group, to which any MSA member is welcome to join. Sub-groups may form from time to time at a State Chapter level and/or at Chapter events and at National Conferences.
At present, there are 24 members in the group, all with quite varied interests, including Australian art song, light music, percussion music, clarinet and saxophone music, and music of Australian composers, including that of Margaret Sutherland, Fritz Hart and Malcolm Williamson. Topics of interest embrace Aboriginality in Australian film music; the collaborative process between composers and performers; music in Australian colonial society (1788-1900) and Australian music history.
